About online shopping in Kenya

Online shopping in Kenya has been the talk of every one since the new technology was introduced in the country.

The new technology has been viewed as a more convenient way of shopping by many Kenyans and that’s why many prefer it.

Hat many do not actually understand are the risks that come with the new technology. That is why it’s important that people are sensitized well enough so as to avoid cases of frauds.

The new technology hit the market with a bang and many business men and women opted to invest in it. Many opened online stores and that explains the large number of online stores we have in the country.

For a business man having an online presence is very important because it gives the business a great visibility and also helps attract more customers.

People are therefore encouraged to ensure that they are careful when shopping from an online store unless they are sure its genuine.

Let’s look at some of the disadvantages of online shopping in Kenya

Disadvantages of online shopping in Kenya

Risky credit card purchase

It’s important that whenever you are shopping online ensure that you shop from a trusted online store. Do not just rush to any online store and start transacting. This can be even more risky since most of the online stores prefer being paid through credit cards or debit cards.

If by any chance you happen to be dealing with a fraud during your shopping, they can easily get hold of your credit card or account number and therefore you may be at risk of being duped.

Delay in product delivery

Unlike in the physical store where you just walk in do your window shopping, pick a product of your choice,  pay at the counter and walk away with the product, online shopping has a different procedure. Most online stores promise to deliver the product to your door step within a specific period of time. This however does not happen as customers have to wait for that product for some days before it is delivered.

No bargaining

Many shoppers love the idea of bargaining for something before buying it. Online shopping does not provide this option since most of their prices are actually fixed. Many will say that bargaining actually makes the whole shopping exercise more enjoyable and interesting.

Deceptive pictures

Many of the pictures we see in most online stores are actually not the same as the actually product they will deliver to you. The photos look good just to attract you to buy while in actual sense they are not that good.

Lack of options

With online shopping a customer is not given a variety of options to choose from. For example in the case of buying a dress, you check out a nice dress and when you ask for a certain color or size they tell you it’s not available. This is the one area most physical stores tend to outdoor them because here a customer has an option of checking if a garment fits or not.

Well the above are just but some of the factors that may be hindering the success of online shopping in Kenya.
