Pump

Fence

It’s important to note that any pool equipment should have a fence over it. The fence should be a non climbable one so as to ensure that no one climbs over the fence or wall. This will therefore ensure the safety of the facility, the users and the people living around the facility.

The gates or fences leading to the pool or spa area should be self closing and self latching with latches that are out of reach of children.

Ensure that all the gates are properly installed and that they open away from the pool and not towards the pool.

Supervision

Pool equipment must be supervised at all times especially when a child is in the pool or spa area. This is also very important when a learner is in the pool. To avoid accidents or cases of drowning, it’s very essential that there is someone to around to supervise a when a child is in the pool area.

Pool/spa safety covers

Pools and spas must have their safety covers. This is very essential in ensuring the safety of children. The covers should therefore be able to hold the weight of a child.

These safety covers should therefore be removed completely only if you need to clean them and they should be replaced immediately afterwards.

Safety covers which are automated should have the turn switch at a height of at least 54’’ above the ground or locked so as to ensure that children do not open the cover themselves.
